“Are you free on Tuesday at 9 AM?”

This question tips the odds of getting an appointment with an IT buyer in your favor. Yes, it’s a bit specific, and there are other times that work as well. Thursdays at 2 PM are pretty good, too.

At enter:marketing, we schedule a lot of appointments for our clients. Through the demand generation and lead cultivation programs we run, we’ve learned a considerable amount about how IT buyers prefer to be engaged, the best survey questions for triggering interest and even when they want to talk.

What we’re about to show you isn’t the result of some survey: it’s live data. Real. These insights are based on the actions of IT buyers.

According to our demand generation and telemarketing data, 58 percent of IT buyers prefer to schedule appointments in the morning, with 9 AM the most popular time (26 percent), with 10 AM (19 percent) coming next. The third most popular meeting hour was 2 PM, securing 16 percent of responses, but it was followed by 11 AM, which was preferred by 13 percent of IT buyers. Whatever you do, however, avoid the extremes. Only 1 percent opted for 8 AM, and none were interested in a 5 PM appointment.

And, IT buyers and decision-makers have their favorite days of the week. Mondays and Fridays tend to be less popular, accounting for only 17 percent and 19 percent of sales appointments, respectively. Tuesday is the day of the week preferred by most decision-makers (24 percent), though they were quite willing to meet on Wednesdays (20 percent) and Thursdays (21 percent), as well.

So, if you’re looking for an engaged audience, don’t propose Monday at 8 AM or Friday at 5 PM … but you already knew that. But, did you realize that Tuesday at 9 AM is gold?
